Recently, the IIDC of Shanghai Jianqiao University launched its “Dean Visit to Dormitories” initiative, with school leaders visiting student residences to provide academic guidance and heartfelt support.
During the visits, the Dean entered student dorm rooms and engaged in informal, seated conversations with students, patiently addressing questions about coursework. Drawing on students’ ongoing design projects, the Dean offered personalized feedback and practical suggestions. For first- and second-year students struggling with software operations and design thinking, the Dean provided on-the-spot demonstrations and shared useful techniques. For senior students working on graduation projects and portfolio refinement, faculty members reviewed their work individually and proposed specific directions for improvement.
Beyond academic support, the Dean also showed genuine concern for students’ daily well-being, asking about their adjustment to campus life and listening attentively to their thoughts and challenges. The Dean further offered advice on time management, career planning, and personal development.
Many students expressed appreciation:“Having the Dean come to our dorm to explain tricky assignments made learning relaxed yet highly effective!”“We not only resolved design-related confusions but also felt the warmth and care from our school.”
A spokesperson from the IIDC stated that this activity vividly embodies the college’s student-centered educational philosophy. Through close, face-to-face interactions, the initiative has enhanced the effectiveness of student mentorship while strengthening the emotional bond between faculty and students. Moving forward, the school will continue to implement such thoughtful, supportive programs to foster students’ holistic growth.
